Dozing off while reading a book

Some of us, while reading a book, can bear reading for a long time at a constant rate of speed and concentration. However, I often doze off while reading a book, especially when it's in a cool environment and I always ended up only reading a few pages of the book before dozing off. Not that the book content is dreary, but it's more on the side of the surroundings.

One of the worst places to read a book is a place that is too cold and quiet that we, though living in tropical countries where it's hot and wet throughout the year, would gradually see the words printed on the book as unsteady as a flickering candle that you can only read but not know what is it talking about. The reason why I chose to write about this topic of dozing off while reading a book is to , hopefully, gather opinions from the public and share it with those that are facing the same problems as me. I am writing this blog after nearly dozing off while reading the first book that I intended to read and the second after feeling sleepy and unable to focus while reading the former.

I have came up with a few solutions to this issue and I shall start with the one that I deem most effective. I usually do this in class , especially in the morning, while reading a book, unless I do not have water nearby. I would pour some water onto my palm while trying not to attract attention from others by acting naturally like nothing has ever happened. Then, I take off my spectacles and bury my eyes into the palm filled with clean water and I would be as fresh as a dew once more.

The second method is by looking around you to clear the drowsiness off. You may look around you and observe things that might interest you. This is to avoid yourself from further reading the book that is causing you the drowsiness and letting your mind to think of some other things instead of just reading the words of the book aloud without knowing what is it about.

It's good to have an alternative book with you, just in case the first book that you are reading is too boring and you have no water or anything interesting around you to observe. The book you choose should be ideally a completely different book as the previous. You may also bring a third or more books along with you just in case the second does not help, except that it is a little bulky and inconvenient . You may also lose them if you are not careful.

If you really have nothing to do about ,look or read at, perhaps some slight entertainment or rest would be suitable. You may play a few games or watch a few short videos to energise yourself up for a while, or you can just close your eyelids.

These are not the only methods but these are what I used to do in the event of dozing off while reading a book. Many face this problem and they might not be able to keep up with the pace of their peers. To be able to concentrate while reading a book depends largely on your ability to understand the book and be enticed to it. To read a book just to read it without understanding would bring these kinds of problems, especially when it's a thick book with many difficult words on each page.

I hope this would help those who are facing this problem.
